The Casa-Museo César Manrique (César Manrique House Museum) is located in the north of the island, in the midst of a picturesque palm grove in Haría. The artist started renovating this former farmhouse in 1986, making it his home until his death in 1992. A visit offers an encounter with the most intimate aspects of the artist's life.

The museum houses numerous examples of Manrique's artwork, as well as a number of pieces of contemporary art by artists including Picasso, Tàpies, and Joan Miró. Manrique spent 20 years living in this incredible oasis in the heart of Lanzarote , before moving to the town of Haría, where he would spend the last years of life in what would become the César Manrique House Museum .

Manrique's home is on the tiny island of Lanzarote, one of the Spanish Canary Islands off the coast of northwestern Africa. That's where the world's longest volcanic eruption took place. For six years, starting in 1730, lava spewed forth from a series of volcanoes there. The molten rock submerged a quarter of the island.

A multifaceted artist César Manrique (1919-1992) was born in Arrecife, Lanzarote. A multidisciplinary painter, sculptor, architect and artist, he studied in Madrid and, after several years exhibiting all around the world, he moved to New York, the mecca of art in the 1960s.

The Fundación César Manrique opens its doors to tourists every day of the year, including holidays, with the only exception being 1st January, from 10:00 to 18:00.
